This cat is definitely feline fat - as he tips the scales at a staggering 40 POUNDS.
Two-year-old Meow was given up by his 87-year-old owners after his weight spiralled out of control.
Just like a human, he had gorged on fatty foods left over by his owners - meaning he bulged to four times the normal weight of a cat his age.
His weight issues became so bad vets predicted he was as obese as a 43 stone human - making him the world's fattest cat.
But now, staff at the Santa Fe Animal Shelter have taken him in and are placing the fat feline on a crash diet.
Dr. Jennifer Steketee said: "It's all the health risks that you would see in a morbidly obese person.
"There is extra pressure on his heart from all that extra fat and the weight that he's carrying around.
"It's tough on his joints. He has a stiff little stilty walk from carrying more than twice his body weight.
"We'll put him on special diet so he can lose weight gradually."
The shelter are running blood tests on Meow to help identify any underlying health problems.
Shelter spokesman Ben Swan added: "He's very sweet. He's doing everything a normal cat would do except he loses his breath and tires easily.
"We tried to treat him like any other cat. We got him a scratching post with a carpeted ring attached but he couldn't even get his head through let alone his whole body.
"He had no interest in the super-sized toy mouse we gave him either.
"We're seeing what we can to do help him."
The world's heaviest cat was Himmy, a tabby from Australia that weighed in at an incredible 47 pounds. He is reported to have since died.
The shelter said Guinness World Records has since stopped accepting applications for the record over concerns it would encourage people to overfeed their animals.
