Little Miss Muffet had better watch out if these spiders are anything to go by as they make incredible jumps on camera. Like tiny trapeze artists the acrobatic arachnids were captured on camera making their daring leaps straight towards camera. Photographer Scott Linstead, 34, has a passion for the creepy crawlies which has lead him to produce this amazing document of their lives. His favourite species, the aptly-named 'Jumping Spiders', can be seen here covering 'vast' distances with their daring leaps. He uses high speed photography taken at a greater speed than 128 frames per second and at least three consecutive frames to take the pictures. Only working at more than 1/28,000th a second can Scott achieve these astonishing results. Scott said he chooses to photograph jumping spiders because they have forward facing eyes 'like people'. He said: "I found the appeal was in their forward facing eyes, it has a more human characteristic unlike other spiders. "These arachnids can spring more than 50 times their own body length to land on their unwary prey, unlike most species which wait for their web to catch the target. "The most effective photos were as the spiders jumped forward watching the camera, they would make eye contact with the camera as I took their photo." "Working with creatures that move too speedily for humans to react to, I have to use trip wire photography to capture his subjects. "This involves setting up a laser beam that reacts much faster than humanly possible enabling the camera to automatically capture the creepy crawlies can get away." "It can take weeks to set up, often making it a necessity to work from a studio. "I feed the spiders on a diet of crickets and keeping them in jars in the basement of my home, the spiders grow no more than the size of a one pence piece. "There are people in America who keep these jumping spiders as pets." Scott runs phototrap workshops for those who want to spend a three day photographers' extravaganza using tripwire photography. Through this tripwire photography Scott's new book, Decisive Moments; creating ironic imagery, is available especially for wildlife enthusiasts and photographers.
