PIC FROM STEVEN FAIERS/MERCURY PRESS (PICTURED: A mother shag and it's baby, Farne Islands off the coast of Northumberland)
A greedy chick was so eager to gets its next meal that it shoved its ENTIRE HEAD down the throat of its mum – nearly being swallowed itself in the process. Steven Faiers, 50, caught the incredible pictures of the bird, a common shag, while visiting the Farne Islands off the coast of Northumberland. The dad-of-two was there to take photos of puffins but found himself in a close encounter with the larger, ‘uglier’ shags – and was left stunned by their unusual behaviour that saw the chick’s head plunge almost 10 inches down her throat.
