BM_RL_Dolphins_surf_a_wave_during_competition by Rebecca Lewis PROFESSIONAL surfers spend years honing their craft - but these dolphins were out to show that they are the undisputed 'Kings of the Waves'. More than ten dolphins put on a spectacular show for spectators watching a prestigious surfing competition at Jeffreys Bay, South Africa.    Not content with letting humans perform remarkable tricks in the water at the J-Bay Open on the ASP World Tour, a pod of dolphins approached the shore. Astonished onlookers watched as the mammals surfed the wave like pros. Stan Blumberg, 62, said: "Two surfers were in the water at the time when a few pods of dolphins swam past and a few surfed the waves as they usually do, without breaking the surface. "Then this pod surfed this wave in full view of everyone on the beach, as if to show who really was the ‘King of the Waves’." Dolphins frequent Jeffreys Bay, on the Eastern Cape, all year round and are normally friendly to humans – but this was a rare occurrence. Stan added: "In my 62 years of living at the coast, I have surfed, scuba dived, been a member of a surf lifesaving club and can honestly say that I have never before seen dolphins surf like this before."
